Earlier in the day, the Syrian army gained control of the strategic town of Qusayr in the west of the country.
The Syria crisis began in March 2011, and many people, including large numbers of soldiers and security personnel, have been killed in the violence.
The Syrian government says that the chaos is being orchestrated from outside the country, and there are reports that a very large number of the militants are foreign nationals.
Damascus says the West and its regional allies, such as Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey, are supporting the militants.
In an interview recently broadcast on Turkish television, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad said that if the militants take power in Syria, they could destabilize the entire Middle East region for decades.
Syria President Bashar al-Assad:
“If the unrest in Syria leads to the partitioning of the country, or if the terrorist forces take control… the situation will inevitably spill over into neighboring countries and create a domino effect throughout the Middle East and beyond.”

The troops were reportedly defusing on Wednesday explosive devices planted by the Takfiri militants fighting against the government in different parts of the town.
More than 200 pickup trucks carrying militants left the town and moved to a nearby village in the north of Qusayr.
The government is trying to bring the town back to normal as soon as possible.
Syrian military forces have dismantled the terrorist network of the foreign-backed militants in the strategic area, which borders Lebanon.
Qusayr has been an important center and supply route for the foreign-sponsored militants fighting against the Damascus government.
The Syrian Army also reported that it has obtained documents confirming the role of Arab and non-Arab countries in the Syria crisis.
Syria has been gripped by a deadly unrest since March 2011, and many people, including large numbers of government forces, have been killed in the violence.
Damascus says the chaos is being orchestrated from outside, and that the militants are supported by the West and its regional allies including Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey.

Killing the fear
This kind of thing is hard to report in a prominent newspaper.
That is perhaps why the international media have not reported that the fear of government and the Prime Minister has been growing even among non-political people.
You can easily hear your grocery shop man saying, "I think my phone is tapped".
The mainstream media has not covered it, but we have read reports on social media about people being arrested for making jokes about the government.
That is perhaps why for the past two days every wall in Taksim Square is full of curses against the Prime Minister.
The public is enjoying the death of the 'cruel father figure' with the most sexist curses I have ever seen in my life.
And I have seen some.
But there is a more important component to the protests.
Teenage girls standing in front of TOMAs — water cannons.
Kids throwing tear gas capsules back to the police.
Rich lawyers throwing stones at the cops.
Football fans rescuing rival fans from police.
Ultra-nationalists struggling arm in arm with Kurdish activists.

Putin warns against foreign military intervention in Syria
Tue Jun 4, 2013
Russian President Vladimir Putin has warned against any attempt at foreign military intervention in Syria, stressing that the move would only make the situation worse.
Speaking at a joint news conference after a summit with European Union leaders in Yekaterinburg, Putin said on Tuesday that any future foreign military intervention in Syria is doomed to fail.

"We once again underscored that any attempts to influence the situation through force and direct military intervention are doomed to failure."
He also criticized the EU for not extending an arms embargo on militants fighting against the Syrian government.
The Russian president also defended his country’s decision to deliver advanced S-300 air defense missile systems to the Syrian government, saying it complies with the international law and will help to tilt the balance of power in the region.
Putin added:
"It's perhaps the best such weapon in the world.
It's indeed a serious weapon.
We don't want to throw the region off balance."
He, however, said that Russia has not yet fulfilled the contract, which was signed a few years ago.
On May 28, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said that Moscow will go ahead with the delivery of S-300 anti-aircraft missiles to Syria, and that the arms will help deter foreign intervention in the Arab country.
He also stated that the air defense system was a 'stabilizing factor' that could dissuade 'some hotheads' from entering the unrest in Syria.
The US, Israel and several Western countries have been pressuring Russia not to go through with a promised delivery of S-300 missiles to the Syrian government.
The S-300 missile system, which has a range of up to 200 kilometers and the capability to track down and strike multiple targets simultaneously, could increase Syria's air defense potential and at the same time limit the Israeli air force's ability to hit targets inside Syria.
Israel has threatened to attack the missiles if they are delivered.

President Bashar al-Assad of Syria speaking of basis for any political solution for crisis in Syria is what the Syrian people want.

Israel directly supports the terrorist movements in two ways.

Firstly, through logistical means manifested by them publicly providing medical aid and hospital facilities to the injured terrorist fighters in the Golan Heights.

Secondly, they provide them with directions and navigational support, regarding how to mount their attacks and which sites to target.

Protesters tell Erdogan to resign
Sunday May 12, 2013
Turkish protesters have called for Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan to step down following two car bombings in a town near the Syrian border.
Scores of people took to the streets of the town of Reyhanli in Hatay province on Saturday after more than 40 people were killed in two car bombings that jolted the town earlier in the day.
Two deadly car bombings shook the town of Reyhanli, near the border with Syria, on May 11, 2013.

Turkey protesters are blaming the Turkish government for the bombing of Reyhanli Turkey because of its support for armed groups inside Syria.

Protesters held banners calling on the United States to stop its intervention and meddling in Syria.

Two deadly car bombings shook the town of Reyhanli, near the border with Syria, on May 11, 2013.
The angry demonstrators said the outbreak of violence was due to the Erdogan administration’s anti-Syria policy.
Security was tight in the center of Reyhanli, near the scene of the blasts, with the security forces setting up checkpoints to control entry into and exit from the town, witnesses said.
A similar demonstration was briefly held in Ankara, in which dozens of people marched in the street and chanted slogans criticizing Erdogan and Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu.
Turkey has been one of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's harshest critics and has supported the foreign-backed militants fighting to topple his government.
Turkish opposition parties have censured the Turkish government for its intervention in Syria’s internal affairs.
Last July, the leader of the Republican People’s Party warned the government against dragging the country into the “Middle Eastern quagmire” with its aggressive anti-Syria stance.
The Syria crisis began in March 2011, and many people, including large numbers of soldiers and security personnel, have been killed in the violence.

On Sunday, the protesters held banners calling on the United States to stop its intervention and meddling in Syria.
The protesters are blaming the Turkish government for the incident because of its support for armed groups inside Syria.
Turkey has accused Damascus of being behind the attack but Syria has dismissed the claim.
Syria Information Minister Omran al-Zohbi told a news conference on Sunday that his country "did not commit and would never commit such an act because our values would not allow that."
He blamed Ankara for the Saturday bombings in Reyhanli as well as the ongoing unrest in Syria by facilitating the flow of arms, explosives, vehicles, militants and money across the border into the Arab country.
"It is (Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip) Erdogan who should be asked about this act... He and his party bear direct responsibility," Zohbi said.
The Syrian minister also stated that Turkey has planned the attacks to use them as a pretext to justify foreign intervention in Syria.
"Why this timing? Why these attack, just days before the meeting between Erdogan and (US President Barack) Obama? Does he (Erdogan), whose country is a NATO member, want to incite the United States (into intervening in Syria) by telling him his country has been attacked?" Zohbi said.
He added that the Turkish government has turned its border areas with Syria into centers for international terrorism.
Fabricate the evidence
Referring to Turkish Interior Minister Muammer Guler, Zohbi said:
"No one has the right to make arbitrary accusations.
He accuses us first, and then says he will find the proof.
That actually means he will fabricate the evidence."
